A scientific network serving the uses of 3D humanities

International audienceThe 3D Consortium of the TGIR Huma-Num has been created based on the observation that there are many initiatives around 3D for the Digital Humanities without real coordination between them. The proliferation of initiatives makes the task difficult and only a consortium-type organization can bring together forces in order to define standardized solutions. The difficulty is increased by the fact that we are dealing with multiple domains, combining science and technology with the humanities. The  aim of the consortium is to facilitate discussions by putting together a maximum of research groups that integrate the use of 3D digital data in their scientific practices, to develops tools for acquisition, visualization, interpretation and preservation of data for the Humanities. The consortium is therefore willing to develop synergies between national Humanities and 3D disciplines in order to: share experiences; edit recommendations in terms of methodology, standards and formats; identify the specific needs of Digital Humanities and link them to the rapid evolution of 3D technologies; develop common tools and platforms; bring French experiences into international works (Parthenos, Dariah, ARIADNE); (vii) disseminate all this information as widely as possible, among academics, industry and administrations

3D Consortium: Creation, scientific use and archiving of 3D data for Humanities and Social Sciences

International audienceDariah annual Event 23- 24 mai 2018. The 3D Consortium, accredited in 2014 by Huma-Num, brings together eleven partners working in the field of archaeology and cultural heritage and who already have experience of using 3D technologies and producing 3D models in the scientific context of Humanities and Social Sciences.From 2014 to 2017, the 3D Consortium’s activities and research results focused on the elaboration of a 3D glossary, open source tools development (archiving software and 3D viewer) and also production of a white paper which analyses the requirements for 3D in HSS.For the next four years (2018-2021), the 3D consortium will focuse on developing synergies between all HSS disciplines to promote transversal approaches and increase the connection with international networks working on the same field

The French National 3D Data Repository for Humanities: Features, Feedback and Open Questions

We introduce the French National 3D Data Repository for Humanities designed for the conservation and the publication of 3D research data in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences. We present the choices made for the data organization, metadata, standards and infrastructure towards a FAIR service. With 437 references at the time of the writing, we have feedback on some challenges to develop such a service and to make it widely used. Vocabulaire 3D - Lexique pour les Sciences Humaines et Sociales

Ce document est le résultat d’un effort continu pour permettre aux acteurs des SHS et ceux de la 3D d’interagir autour d’un vocabulaire commun. Ce lexique a pour but d’accompagner les différents livrables du consortium 3D. Il a aussi vocation à terme à aider à l’enrichissement de TaDiRAH , « Taxonomy of Digital Research Activities in the Humani-ties » du consortium européen DARIAH . Share - Publish - Store - Preserve. Methodologies, Tools and Challenges for 3D Use in Social Sciences and Humanities

Through this White Paper, which gathers contributions from experts of 3D data as well as professionals concerned with the interoperability and sustainability of 3D research data, the PARTHENOS project aims at highlighting some of the current issues they have to face, with possible specific points according to the discipline, and potential practices and methodologies to deal with these issues. During the workshop, several tools to deal with these issues have been introduced and confronted with the participants experiences, this White Paper now intends to go further by also integrating participants feedbacks and suggestions of potential improvements. Therefore, even if the focus is put on specific tools, the main goal is to contribute to the development of standardized good practices related to the sharing, publication, storage and long-term preservation of 3D data

Essai de restitution virtuelle de la Maison des Fresques à Tipasa

International audienceBuilt in the mid-second century, the house of the Fresco is a large roman’s house belonging to the Roman ancient city of Tipasa, it subsites of this habitat that some sections of wall we provide valuable information about its original appearance. Using the 3D tool will allow us to modeling the remaining structures and complete them in order to obtain a consistent picture of the building to answer some questions. The creation of this virtual model is part of a PhD in archeology under the direction of Mr. Robert Vergnieux and aim the analyze of domestic architecture of the ancient city of Tipasa.Construite vers le milieu du iie siècle, la Maison des Fresques est une vaste demeure romaine dont il ne subsiste aujourd’hui que quelques pans de murs nous livrant de précieuses informations sur son aspect d’origine. L’utilisation de l’outil 3D va nous permettre de modéliser les structures restantes et de les compléter afin d’obtenir une image cohérente de la construction qui répondra à certaines interrogations.
